“An act of generosity opens our body, heart, and spirit and brings us closer to freedom.” —Jack Kornfield

Dana - The Practice of Generosity

Dana (pronounced "dah-na") is a Pali word meaning generosity. Dating back to the time of the Buddha, there has existed an interdependence between those who offer the teachings and those who receive them. The teachings are given freely, since they are considered priceless. It is the practice of dana that has kept the Buddhist tradition alive for more than 2,500 years in Asia, where committed supporters have given generously to establish networks of monasteries and retreat centers providing for millions of teachers and practitioners. As these ancient teachings move to the West, we hope to keep alive this joyful tradition.

Dana Online – Practicing Generosity in the Information Age

Your generous support will be used to help underwrite special and recurring costs, and to develop further programming. Additionally, each year Insight San Diego seeks to support the broader Buddhist community. Since 2016, we have donated 25% of class/group dana to the teachers whose recorded talks we listened to and an additional 10% to the organizations that host those recordings.
