Intersection of the Three Characteristics and Love

Saturday, July 20, 2024, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Note: The Pride Parade is help on July 20. See information below about getting to the location.

Daylong Summary: The three characteristics of existence – impermanence, incompleteness and selflessness – occupy a special place in the Insight Meditation tradition. It is said that understanding these aspects of experience help us let go into deep wisdom. While classically considered wisdom teachings, these understandings are supported by love and leave love in their wake. During this day, we’ll explore the intersections between core wisdom teachings and the heart. The daylong will include sitting and walking meditation, guided practice, dharma talks and time for dialogue. All are welcome.

This offering is part of Insight San Diego’s week-long teacher in residence program with Matthew Brensilver.

Matthew is the co-author of two books about meditation during adolescence and continues to be interested in the unfolding dialogue between Buddhism and science.

Daylong Information

Saturday, July 20, 2024. 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Date & Time:

Location:

First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, Bard Hall

4190 Front Street, San Diego, CA. 92103 (GPS: 298 W Arbor Dr., San Diego, CA 92103)

July 20 is also the Pride Parade. Best way to get to the church is to approach from the west. From the church staff:

  • From 1-5, use the Washington St exit, go east and come up the hill, and turn left on First Ave (just after Front St).

  • Avoid the 163 between I-8 and I-5. Either use I-8 to get to I-5, or stay on I-5, and get to the Washington St exit.

  • If you're on surface streets coming from the south, get to First Ave south of Balboa Park, and then go north. Use Ash or Beech, Cedar or Elm or Fir, to get to First Ave and it's usually easy to follow that all the way up to Arbor Drive. If you find yourself on an alphabetically more-advanced street such as Laurel, don't panic - just head west as soon as you can, get to First, and you should be good.

  • Do not use 6th, 5th, or 4th Ave anywhere near Balboa Park.

  • Do not use Washington or University to approach from the East.
