Dharma Talk
Discover What Death Teaches About Living Fully

with Frank Ostaseski

  • Location: First Unitarian Universalist Church, San Diego, CA. Meeting House
  • Date: July 7, 2017
  • Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Dying is inevitable.

It is the most intimate of all experiences.

We can’t be truly alive without maintaining an awareness of death.

In this talk, Frank will explore how ordinary people develop profound insights and, as a result, are transformed in the dying process. Both the person dying and their caregiver(s) often find profound love and a deep capacity within themselves that they didn't know existed or had access to. Frank reveals how caregivers during this process discover an innate trust and reliable goodness in themselves. They also discover how they emerge as someone more expansive than the small, limiting, and separate self they had previously taken themselves to be.

Frank Ostaseski is an internationally respected Buddhist teacher and visionary cofounder of the Zen Hospice Project, and founder of the Metta Institute. He co-created the 2-year Heavenly Messenger program at the Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Frank has sat on the precipice of death with more than a thousand people and trained countless clinicians and caregivers in the art of mindful and compassionate care. He has lectured at Harvard Medical School, the Mayo Clinic, Wisdom.2.0, and teaches at major spiritual centers around the globe. His work has been highlighted on The Oprah Winfrey Show, featured by Bill Moyers in his PBS television series, and honored by H.H. the Dalai Lama. He is the author of The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully. More info: fiveinvitations.com.
